Silent Voices

(2025)

Installation

Engraved tiles on wall

»When I started dealing with the topic artistically, the numbers looked very different: "Every 3rd day..." It was said back then. Unfortunately, things are different today. In 2023, a woman was murdered almost every day in Germany according to the numbers of BKA. Femicides are part of our everyday lives, but paradoxically still a blatant taboo. Those affected do not dare to report the crime. Out of shame. With my work "Silent Voices" in 2021, I already drew attention to femicides in Munich (see SZ article: https://www.sueddeutsche.de/muenchen/muenchen-gewalt-frauen-alexandra-dabrowski-femizide-1.5524675?reduced=true). But the numbers continue to rise. This is why I realized "Silent Voices" (2025) this time as an installation. I have put up specially made plaques with the date and sometimes the name of the victim as a memorial wall. Some plaques remain empty. Unfortunately, it is only a matter of time before these plaques can be also inscribed with a name, because nothing is changing. The state is failing to protect women from domestic violence. How much longer are we going to watch this? Other plaques lie broken on the ground. Were they torn down in anger? By whom? Who could be bothered by making this sensitive issue visible?«

Paint on Silk

»It‘s the first time I have drawn on silk and I am extraordinarily surprised by the softness, lightness and lucidity of its great texture.«
